When Does the “err_connection_refused” Error Happen?

Your computer tries to access a DNS server

Errors that occur while loading a web page or while browsing the internet usually show up as “err_connection_refused” errors. These errors appear while your computer tries to access a DNS server to which it is attempting to connect. In the past, most people were happy just fixing this problem by restoring their browsers to an earlier date and making the necessary changes.

Cookies or cache on your system

The other possible reason why you’re getting the “err_connection_refused” error is that you have too many open cookies or cache on your system.

To fix this, you should remove any and all cookies that you currently have open, as well as any temporary internet files that you might have stored on your computer. To do this, you should go into “My Computer” and browse to C:/Windows, click “select disk for temporary files” and then press “mount”.

You should note that pressing “mount” needs you to reboot your computer in order for the changes to take effect. After this, you should remove any and all temporary internet files and cookies from your computer, as they can seriously affect Windows’s ability to process information from them. After removing these files and cookies, you should then re-open Windows, and if you have not done so already, download and install Microsoft’s updates.

How to Fix the “err_connection_refused” Error?

Today, however, there are much better ways to fix the “err_connection_refused” error than having to resort to restoring your browser.

Assuring the status of the website

One way to fix this problem is to ensure that the website you are trying to access is working properly. If you see an error saying that the page cannot be located, there may be a problem with several factors. If you have already installed Firefox, then you can use the “Add-Remove Plugin” application to get rid of any error when having an extension.

However, if you are using Chrome, then it is generally not possible to do this. Chrome has a security feature that enables it to detect all attempted attacks on its network and deny them if it found the reason for the attack. This is called “Google antivirus” and is continually being updated. Each time you use your PC, it will potentially fix various reasons why your PC has stopped responding.

If you find that this is the problem causing your error, then you should try accessing the Google website and making sure that your computer’s settings allow Chrome to use trusted certificates. This will make sure that all the “trusted” extensions on your system are working correctly.

Using “registry cleaner” programs

If this doesn’t help, you should consider using some of the many different “registry cleaner” applications available online. These tools are available free of charge and are basically software programs designed to scan through your PC and fix various errors that commonly occur with Windows PCs. Although they claim to be able to fix a large number of problems, the reality is that only a few of them are reliable enough to be effective. The “registry cleaner” program that I use on my computer (amongst others) is one called “Frontline Registry Cleaner“.

After you’ve used the program to fix the error, you should then restart your system and click the “reset” button on the start menu to make sure that all your personal settings are correct. Then, you should type in “Safe Mode” on the boot menu. Your computer will load up Windows without any of its programs/features. To do this, you should press F8 continually until you get to a “Safe Mode” screen, at which point you should select “safe mode”. This will load up Windows without any additional programs or drivers loading. And if you want to see whether an incompatible driver caused the error message “err_connection_refused”, you should restart your system and check that the error goes away.

Updating your Windows

If you are still getting the “err_connection_refused” error after following these steps, then it is likely that you either have not completely finished upgrading your PC or your computer did not receive the latest Windows updates. In order to ensure that this does not cause any further problems, you should then press “Control Panel” and then press “Search” to search for the option “Safe Mode”. This will load Windows without any extra drivers/programs/features, and should therefore fix any errors that you may have.
